The Australian Government recently announced the Thriving Kids program[1], a new initiative designed to support children with developmental delay and autism, as well as their families. While the details are still unfolding, the news has raised questions and concerns among many parents and carers.
At this stage, it’s important to know that nothing is changing overnight. There’s still a lot we don’t know about how the program will be rolled out or how it will affect children currently supported by the NDIS. But if you’re feeling uncertain, there are practical steps you can take now to make sure your child continues to get the support they need.
Focus on Today: Is Your Child’s Plan Working?
The most important thing you can do right now is to make sure your child’s current NDIS Plan is working effectively for them. This means checking that:
- Your child is receiving the right supports for their needs.
- Their funding is allocated in a way that helps them thrive.
- You feel confident about how to use the budgets available.
A strong, well-understood plan will help ensure your child is supported today, while giving you peace of mind as future changes to programs like Thriving Kids are clarified.
